Resume building tips on how to build a great summary

Utilize the field to provide your career objective to provide a career summary in resume building. “Increased revenue through strategic sales management” is a better sounding career summary than “an MBA in Marketing with 15 years experience in sales”. Then go ahead to fill out the resume details to highlight your accomplishments to justify your claim in your effort of resume building.

Understand the job description

If the job description is for an executive in audit, the traits required are patience, eye for detail, ability to check and analyze minor points. An executive in sales, on the other hand should be gregarious, enjoy traveling and meeting people, high on energy and willing to talk about oneself. The job description tells you whether this is potentially a desk job or one that needs frequent field visits. This is a vital aspect of resume building.

Self assessment

What type of person are you? Do you like the outdoors and a chance to network with people? Does creative writing give you a high? Are you the kind who loves to check work and point out the mistakes in it? Look back at your student life and think of the times when you have felt involved with the work you did. What did the job involve? Articulate the traits that you displayed on the project and list them down. If you love parties and hate being confined to a computer screen, you are probably a good choice for sales. If you are good at arranging events, jobs like event management or administration may be for you. If you are unable to bring up a satisfactory assessment of yourself, ask your friends, colleagues and family members to help you. Their insights into your personality will help you identify the traits that will take you to success in resume building.

Suit the job description

Now that you have listed the traits look at the vacancies carefully and check whether you have traits suited to the job, list out what you can do to suit the job. Let your summary articulate the ways in which your traits suit the job description and talk about creative ideas you have to get the work started. This presents your energy, enthusiasm and creativity that you bring to the job. Research the company you are applying for. This will give you an idea about the main focus areas of the job and gives you the chance to market yourself appropriately in resume building.

Describe yourself effectively

Are you an adept marketer with in depth understanding of the market or a mentor who has effectively lead winning teams to reach targets? What accomplishments do you have to stand by this claim? Have you managed meager budgets and found creative ways to reach your goals despite constraints? Reducing costs, staying within small budgets and similar financial tones to your accomplishments in resume building, highlight to the recruiter that you are a willing candidate who is aware and willing to find a way despite constrained resources.
